Private 25364 – 6th Battalion Kings Own Royal Lancashire Regiment – enlisted in Barrow in Furness, he was living at 138 Anson St, Barrow in Furness and was aged 26, height 5’ 2 ½ ‘’ had fair hair and was born in Huddersfield .
He was appointed to Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry at Lancaster on 29th May 1916 and he fought in Mesopotamia in the Asiatic Theatre of War.
He died of wounds on 12 Feb 1917 (27) in 39th Field Ambulance Mesopotamia.
Plaque on Basra Memorial in Iraq which, until 1997 was located on the main quay of the naval dockyard at Maquil on the west bank of the Shatt-al-Arab about 8 km north of Basra. The Basra Memorial is now located 32 km along the road to Nasiriyah, in the middle of what was a major battleground during the First Gulf War.
Father William Skipsey a foreman tailor, mother Eleanor Skipsey of 18 Trinity Street Huddersfield. In 1911, Harold was a Gents outfitter. Harold was born in Fartown, where the family lived at 87 Norman Road.
